Over 13,000 PSSSF retirees pocket 126bn/- under new retirement benefits formula

MOROGORO: A TOTAL of 126bn/- has been paid to 13,167 retirees through Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF) from July to December, this year.

The payment has been done in accordance to the enhanced retirement benefits formula.

PSSSF’s Public Relations and Education Manager, Yessaya Mwakifulefule told journalists recently in Morogoro that the Fund is doing everything in its capacity to pay the retirees on time and by considering the requirements of the law.

He was speaking during a training and educational session about the Fund for journalists who are members of the Morogoro Region Journalists Club.

Mr Mwakifulefule stated that the Fund began paying benefits to retirees in September this year according to the government directives.

The Public Relations and Education Manager further explained that the payment process involves two categories: A two per cent payment directly from the Fund, and a seven per cent payment made by the government.

He noted that among the two per cent group, those who retired under the new law effective from July 1, 2024, are covered by the improved law passed by Parliament.

Mr Mwakifulefule explained that a group of 983 retirees was paid by December this year.

Moreover, for the seven per cent group, 1,984 retirees were paid, bringing the total paid by the fund to 2,967 retirees in the category.

He added that besides these, there were also retirees who had complained about reductions, but these were paid according to the previous calculation law from 2022.

He added that the retirees have also been paid at satisfactory levels after the new improved calculation formula was introduced.

He stated that PSSSF had to revisit the cases of retirees and begin paying their reductions. In this group, 3,364 retirees were paid under the two per cent category and 9,803 retirees from the government (seven per cent) were also paid.

Mr Mwakifulefule said in total, 13,167 retirees had been paid and the fund has paid a total of 126bn/-to retirees in the two categories.

Meanwhile, the PSSSF Eastern Region Manager, Zaida Mahava, said that due to the major service improvements at the regional level, complaints have decreased significantly.

“We have made great progress, we have reduced the problems and we have reduced complaints. This is our main goal to ensure that we serve our members well and on time,” Ms Mahava stated.

In addition, she mentioned that PSSSF continues to provide education and training on how to use the digital PSSSF system for its members, especially those in rural areas.

Mahava said that the ongoing training sessions will continue to reach all groups, ensuring that no one is left behind in the philosophy of PSSSF in hand.
