Dar sees fortune in global-level Quran contest

DAR ES SALAAM: BIG fortune is highly anticipated in this year’s International Quran Memorization and Recitation competition to be held this Sunday at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in the city.

Besides over 2000 motor and tri-cyclists and bus operators who will be ferrying believers to and from the venues, there is foreign revenues to be gained besides blessings as the event glorifies the Almighty God.

The organizers of the event disclosed today that the overall winner of the one-day event will pocket 30m/-.

Speaking about the competition in the city today, the event’s coordinator, Ally Kamwe, stated that the competition, organized by the Quran Memorization Association in Tanzania under Sheikh Othman Kaporo, will award prizes to the first 2,000 participants who arrive early and receive special vouchers for the competition.

In addition to these prizes, participants will also receive mobile phones, and four lucky individuals will win a trip to Oman and the opportunity to perform Hajj.

The competition’s spokesperson, Khamis Tembo said the competition will be officiated by Imam from the Holy Mosques of Makkah and Madina, Abdullah Ai Bu’ayjaan who has already arrived in the country.

Abdallah Al Enezi, a religious spokesperson from Saudi Arabia, encouraged Muslims to attend the event in large numbers in the event partly sponsored by Saudi Arabia.

He emphasized that the competition reflects the strong relationship and cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Tanzania in various sectors, particularly in the religious field and in community development and education about Allah’s teachings.

“Our sponsorship is not just financial; we have brought judges who will collaborate with Tanzanians and the Islamic Council of Tanzania on various matters to benefit Muslims,” he added.

The event will also feature the distribution of national and international awards, with young participants under the age of 12 from various continents demonstrating their Quran recitation skills.
