Time for our cricket ladies to shine

DAR ES SALAAM: THE ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers reach their climax as our national women’s cricket team stand on the brink of history.

With a flawless group stage performance, the ladies have shown the nation and the continent what determination, skill and unity can achieve. Now, with just one hurdle remaining between them and a place at the World Cup, it’s time to rally behind our champions and believe in the dream.

The qualifiers, which commenced on August 31st and run until Saturday, have already seen our team deliver a series of inspiring performances.

Kicking off with a nail-biting one-run victory over Uganda, the squad followed up with a commanding 40- run win against Kenya, and rounded off the group stage by defeating Rwanda by 18 runs.Commanding in three group games with three wins has proved a perfect run.

But the journey is not over yet.

Up next is the semi-final showdown against a formidable Namibian side. It won’t be easy, no semi-final ever is, but this team has already proven that it has the grit and heart to overcome any challenge. With the top two teams qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, this match is more than just a semi-final, for it is a gateway to the world stage.

The cricket sides have been here before. Just earlier this year, our U19 men’s team punched their ticket to the World Cup through hard work and belief. They have set the standard and now it is the senior team’s time to rise and follow suit. The opportunity is real. The moment is now.
