Tanzania on track in CHAN preparations – Msigwa

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports who is the Government’s Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, has confirmed that Tanzania is on track in preparations to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The competition will officially commence on February 1st and continue throughout the entire month.

Msigwa provided an update on the ongoing preparations for the tournament in an interview with the ‘Daily News’ yesterday in Dar es Salaam.

The Government’s Spokesperson confirmed that the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, the venue for the CHAN tournament in Dar es Salaam, is fully prepared and ready for action. Msigwa noted that the final touches are being made to the training venues for the teams, noting that two of the three are almost complete.

“We are ready. Our Benjamin Mkapa Stadium is fully prepared for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and we are finalising the preparations for the training venues. The training grounds at the Law School, Major General Isamuhyo Stadium, and Gymkhana are in excellent condition and nearly ready for use,” Msigwa said.

With the tournament just around the corner, the readiness of these facilities marks an important milestone in Tanzania’s success to host the prestigious continental competition. The completion of the training venues will ensure that all participating teams have access to world-class facilities, contributing to the smooth running of the event.

Further, he highlighted that the government is committed to ensuring that sports stakeholders are well-informed about the opportunities available within the sports sector. This initiative aims to encourage greater investment and involvement from various individuals and organisations in sports development.

To achieve this, the Ministry plans to increase awareness by utilising billboards and broadcasting advertisements across various media channels. The goal is to make these opportunities widely known and accessible, thus fostering a culture of investment in sports at all levels.

“We will continue to educate our sports stakeholders about recognising opportunities and beginning to invest in them. We will do this by organising billboards and advertisements across our media platforms,” he said.

As the countdown to CHAN begins, Tanzania is positioning itself as a well-prepared host for one of Africa’s biggest sporting events.

The government’s commitment to ensuring the successful execution of the tournament is evident, and all eyes will be on the country as it showcases its capabilities on the continental stage.
