TanTrade inks six key MoUs at Expo 2025 Osaka

DODOMA: Tanzania is making meaningful strides at the Osaka Expo, with Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) confirming the signing of six Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) in key sectors highlighting a promising path for international collaboration and investment.

Tanzania’s Commissioner General at the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Ms Latifa Khamis, told the Daily News in a phone interview yesterday these agreements are expected to open new avenues for collaboration, investment and innovation, reinforcing Tanzania’s commitment to sustainable growth and strengthening its presence in high-level global forums.

“It reflects the country’s growing appeal as a strategic partner on the global stage and underscores TanTrade’s proactive role in driving economic diplomacy,” she stated.

Ms Khamis said one of the agreement signed was between the University of Dodoma (UDOM) and the African Economic Development Organization of Japan (AFRECO), aimed at collaboration in education and research, valued at 1.5billion US dollar approximately 4.03tri/-.

Another agreement is between Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH), the UDOM, and Japan’s Tokushukai Medical Group, for the construction of a modern Kidney Transplant Center, valued at 28bn/-.

Ms Khamis who is also a TanTrade Director General noted that the agreements were signed during the Swahili Symposium held on Sunday.

This symposium has borne significant results, with six MoUs signed including cooperation between Tanzania’s Ministry of Energy and Japan’s JGC Corporation for the development of the natural gas sector; an agreement between the Tanzania Geothermal Development Company (TGDC) and Toshiba Energy Solution Corporation for geothermal energy development.

Others are the partnership between the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) and Axcel Africa aimed at promoting investment in the country; and an MoU between the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) and Axcel Africa with the same goal of enhancing the investment environment.

“Our participation is not just for show case only we are strategically aiming to reap benefits. We will ensure that we promote all sectors so participants from worldwide including those from here Japan can see the opportunities and come to invest in the country,” said Ms Khamis.

She added that more agreements are expected to be signed before the end of the exhibition.

Ms Khamis noted the participation includes eight programme from strategic sectors aimed at showcasing Tanzania’s potential as a hub for trade, investment, and tourism, in line with the national theme ‘connecting lives.’

Japan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fujie Hisayuki urged Japanese investors to use the opportunity provided by the Expo to increase investment in Tanzania.
TanTrade continues to coordinate Tanzania’s participation in this major global event, Expo 2025 Osaka, which began on April 13, 2025 and will end on October 13, 2025.
