Parliamentary committees to begin 11-day preparatory meetings, elect chairpersons

DODOMA: PARLIAMENTARY Committees are set to begin an 11-day schedule of meetings next Tuesday in Dodoma, marking the first major activity of the 2026 legislative calendar ahead of the Second Sitting of the 13th Parliament.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Parliamentβs Communication and Public Education Department, the meetings will run from January 13 to January 23, 2026, in preparation for the forthcoming parliamentary session later this month.
Members of the Parliament have been directed to report to Dodoma on Monday ahead of the meetings.

During the sessions, committees will elect chairpersons and vice-chairpersons in line with Rule 138(11) of the 2025 Parliamentary Standing Orders, a process that often shapes oversight priorities for the year.
Committees will also familiarise themselves with their respective ministries, institutions and legal frameworks guiding their mandates, as outlined under Rule 140 and the Eighth Schedule of the Standing Orders.
In addition, members will receive orientation on their roles, while the Budget Committee is expected to begin preparing initial motions and proposals to be tabled once Parliament resumes.
The preparatory meetings traditionally bridge the parliamentary recess and the full House sittings, laying the groundwork for effective legislative business.
