Mwinyi thanks Oman for strengthening historic ties with Zanzibar

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has expressed his gratitude to the government of Oman for its continued cooperation and for strengthening the longstanding historical and fraternal ties between the two nations.

President Mwinyi made the remarks during a meeting with Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Sheikh Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, who was accompanied by Oman’s Consul General in Zanzibar, Said Salim Al Sinawi and a delegation from the Omani Ministry.

During the discussions, President Mwinyi reaffirmed Zanzibar’s commitment to deepening its close relationship with Oman, with a focus on mutual benefit, particularly in the areas of tourism, cultural exchange and the preservation of shared historical heritage.

For his part, Minister Al Mahrouqi thanked President Mwinyi for the warm welcome and reiterated Oman’s commitment to enhancing cooperation, especially through ongoing restoration projects of historic sites in Zanzibar funded by the Omani government.

While in Zanzibar, Minister Al Mahrouqi, accompanied by Zanzibar’s Minister for Tourism and Heritage, Mudrick Ramadhan Soraga, toured several heritage sites supported by Oman, including Beit al-Ajaib (House of Wonders), Mtoni Palace, Kibweni Palace and other restoration projects within Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
