Mwinyi pledges continued investment in modern housing
ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has assured citizens that the government will continue to mobilise funds for the construction of modern, high-quality housing, with the aim of providing every citizen access to safe and dignified shelter.
Dr Mwinyi made these remarks during the launch of a digital service delivery system, the ‘ZHC-Connect App’—and the official inauguration of the Mwinyi Housing Scheme project.
The ceremony was held over the weekend in Urban District, Mjini Magharibi Region.
The president further committed to implementing a special programme to enable low-income workers to purchase affordable, decent housing built by the Zanzibar Housing Corporation (ZHC).
He said, “The programme will feature low repayment rates, making it easier for workers to afford quality homes at reasonable prices. It is the government’s core responsibility to ensure that citizens live in safe and dignified housing environments.”
Dr Mwinyi also revealed the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the aesthetic appeal and prestige of cities across Zanzibar through modern housing development.

In addition, President Mwinyi announced progress on the construction of 3,000 residential units in the Chumbuni area, with 1,095 homes currently under construction in the first phase.
The Mwinyi Housing Scheme will initially begin in the Kisasaka area, Unguja West B District, with the construction of 520 housing units, a phase that was officially launched during the event.
Zanzibar’s Minister for Land and Housing, Ms Rahma Kassim Ali and ZHC Director General Sultan Said encouraged citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to purchase homes being built by the Housing Corporation in various prime locations.
They emphasised that this is a unique chance to own quality homes at affordable prices.
