Mavunde hands over grape farm project to women entrepreneurs
DODOMA: DODOMA Urban MP Anthony Mavunde, has handed over a grape farm project to the Market Women Entrepreneurs’ Association (UWAWAMA) as part of his commitment to empowering women traders.
This initiative fulfills a pledge he made during a major businesswomen’s forum led by the Chairperson of the Women’s Wing of the ruling party (UWT), Ms Mary Chatanda.
The handover ceremony took place on Thursday at Mpunguzi in Dodoma, where the association also received a financial boost of 10m/- to strengthen its fund.
Speaking at the event, Mavunde, who also serves as the Minister for Minerals, commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her efforts in improving market infrastructure in Dodoma, which has stimulated business growth and increased income for small-scale traders.

“This grape farm project is expected to enhance revenues and strengthen the financial base of small traders. I firmly believe that this initiative will drive economic growth for the association and significantly improve the sustainability of your businesses. I will ensure you secure a stable market for your produce,” he stated.
Minister Mavunde further emphasised that the project should serve as a pillar of unity, love and solidarity among the traders rather than a source of division that could hinder the association’s progress.
On her part, UWAWAMA Chairperson Ms Anna Mwita expressed gratitude to Mr Mavunde for his continuous efforts in supporting women entrepreneurs.
She pledged to work collectively in maintaining and expanding the project to maximise its benefits for market women.
She also assured that the 10m/- fund would be utilised effectively to strengthen the association’s financial stability and support its members’ economic activities.
