Kabudi calls for public input on national dress

DODOMA: THE Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Palamagamba Kabudi, has commended the national dress report and urged the committee to share it with the public for further input.

Minister Kabudi made the remarks upon receiving a special report from the committee tasked with proposing a national dress for Tanzania.

He commended the committee for their diligent efforts and outlined the next steps in the process.

“Establishing a national dress involves multiple phases and cannot be achieved in a single attempt,” he stated.

“The designs will be presented to the public to gather feedback, ensuring inclusivity and a sense of collective ownership. This is not a one-time process; it requires input from citizens and various stakeholders.”

The proposed dress will represent Tanzanian culture, crafted from materials that reflect the country’s traditions and identity, allowing Tanzanians to be recognised by their distinctive national attire wherever they go.

The Minister emphasised the importance of public participation in creating the national dress, explaining that this attire is not merely clothing but a representation of the nation’s history, pride and aspirations for the future.

“The proposed designs will be showcased for everyone to review and provide their opinions. The National Attire will represent Tanzania’s heritage and its design will be evaluated to ensure it meets both aesthetic and cultural standards,” Kabudi explained.

He further highlighted the significance of this initiative, noting, “The National Attire is a collaborative effort involving cultural experts and advocates, aimed at celebrating and solidifying Tanzania’s heritage.

It will serve as a cultural emblem both locally and internationally, fostering national pride.”
