CCM pledges agri-boost

LINDI: CCM Presidential Candidate, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday pledged that if elected in next month’s General Election, her government will promote improved and modern agricultural practices to ensure the sector benefits both farmers and the country at large.
Addressing campaign rallies at Ndanda in Mtwara Region, Ruangwa and Mtama in Lindi Region, President Samia assured that her government will continue providing subsidised fertilisers and other agricultural inputs, emphasising that such measures have already boosted the sector over the past five years.
She added that if elected, her government will also continue seeking reliable and profitable markets locally and abroad for agricultural produce, with the aim of improving farmers’ livelihoods and strengthening the sector.
Dr Samia noted that, farmers across the country, including those in Ndanda, Ruangwa and Mtama recorded impressive harvests of both food and cash crops in the last season.
“I would like to assure you that the government will continue providing subsidised fertilisers and other agricultural inputs. We have already seen crop yields increase in the past season and we must maintain this momentum,” she said.
Moreover, President Samia expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, describing him as competent, hardworking and patriotic.
She promised that her government will continue to rely on Prime Minister Majaliwa as an important and diligent aide.
“I want to make a pledge to you today that Prime Minister Majaliwa will remain a key and reliable partner in leadership,” she said.
President Samia also said that Ruangwa constituency has transformed significantly due to the strong and effective leadership of Premier Majaliwa, who has been its MP for 15 years.
She added that Mr Majaliwa has shown great dedication and earned the respect of Tanzanians nationwide.
She said: “Prime Minister Majaliwa has worked tirelessly to oversee government operations, while also spearheading the implementation of CCM’s election manifesto in this constituency and across the nation.”

President Samia thanked Premier Majaliwa for his cooperation, commitment and patriotism.
She said: “He is a diligent, patriotic and dependable leader. We have worked together with great teamwork.”
On agriculture, President Samia said her government will continue working hard to secure reliable markets and better prices for cashew nuts to ensure that farmers benefit from their hard work.
She urged farmers to save part of their earnings from cashew sales in order to join health insurance schemes.
She also promised that the government will build a VETA college in Mtama and improve health and education services.
On his part, Prime Minister Majaliwa urged Tanzanians to vote for CCM candidates in the October polls saying the sixth-phase government had successfully implemented the party’s election manifesto as planned.
He said the government is continuing to implement projects in key sectors, including water, education, health and infrastructure.
“The University of Dar es Salaam is building a branch here in Lindi. This is one of major achievements of this government for the people of this region,” he said.
He further revealed that the government, with support from Japan, plans to construct the Kibiti–Lindi road.
“The government is also committed to building roads and bridges. Also, the construction of a modern railway line in Mtwara will greatly benefit Tanzanians, including the people of Lindi,” he explained.
Mtama constituency parliamentary candidate, Mr Nape Nnauye also called on Tanzanians to vote for CCM in the upcoming elections, noting that the sixth-phase government had shown strong performance in public service delivery.
“Today our election campaign slogan is Work and Dignity. President Samia has already demonstrated dignity during her tenure by improving various aspects of the people’s lives,” he said.
