ZANZIBAR: A woman in the history of union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, Khadija Abbas Rashid (74), has died.
Acting director for the union in the Vice-President’s Office (Union and Environment), Ms Hanifa Selengu, confirmed her death today.
However, Ms Selengu, who spoke through telephone referred the Daily News to Ms Aziza Makarani, a daughter of the Late Khadija for further details.
Speaking with this paper from Zanzibar, Ms Makarani said her mother died today at around 2:30pm while at her home, Rahaleo area, in Zanzibar Urban West Region.
Bi Khadija took part in the symbolic ceremony of mixing the soil from Tanganyika and Zanzibar which took place on April 26, 1964
