Z’bar 1stVP challenges ministry to increase graduate employability

ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar First Vice President Othman Masoud Othman has challenged the Ministry of education and Vocational Training to ensure young graduates have skills and knowledge to meet the current job demand for the country’s economic development.

First President Othman assured that the government is committed to support the ministry in that undertaking.

He said this in Kojani Island, Wete District, North Pemba Region, when he laid the foundation stone for the construction of a two-storey school building for Primary school, which will cost more than 3.38bn/- including procurement of furniture.

He said the government is implementing major educational reforms including to enable having a conducive learning environment for students by constructing modern buildings.

“The government intends to start the implementation of the new curriculum for secondary which aims to strengthen the skills of young people to meet needs, considering the competition in free labor market in the world,” Mr Othman said.

He added that it was good for the government and parents to collaborate in preparing young people to focus of market demand studies.

Mr Othman praised the leadership of the ministry of education and vocational Training and other actors for the efforts they were making in implementing various education projects in order to achieve the government’s goal of making major reforms in the sector.

Regional commissioner for North Pemba Ms Salama Mbarouk Khatib said she was happy with the government’s efforts to increase the construction of storey-buildings in various schools in strengthening the education sector in the country.

On his part, the Principal Secretary- Ministry of Education and vocational training Mr Khamis Abdalla said that construction of new school buildings will also improve quality of education, as it includes having modern classrooms and laboratories for students.
