Youth to access labour market via new initiative

YOUTH in the country will now have an easy means to navigate the labour market and grab various employment opportunities, thanks to the launching of ‘Kijana Info Kit (KIKI)’ initiative.

Lack of a comprehensive platform for youth to discover and pursue employment opportunities, has been hampering their ability to navigate the labor market successfully.

To bridge this gap, ABC Bros Advertising and Marketing Officer, Mr Alphonce Marealle, said on Monday that KIKI will consolidate essential information on careers, finance, jobs, markets, and skills into an easily accessible format.

“KIKI aims to unlock this potential by empowering young individuals with relevant information, inspiration and support to turn their interests, passions and skills into meaningful employment,” he said.

Despite of the stable economic growth, youth unemployment remains a significant obstacle, with a rate of 11.5 per cent according to the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Tanzania boasts a youthful population, with a median age of just 17.9 years. However, this demographic advantage is not fully utilised due to limited access to credit, educational and skills mismatches and an ineffective labour market information system.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Embassy of the Netherlands for their generous financial support in making the KIKI a reality. Their contribution has played a pivotal role in empowering Tanzanian youth and providing them with access to crucial information and opportunities,” Mr Marealle said.

As a one-stop platform, KIKI will provide Tanzanian youth with access to vital information on job opportunities, entrepreneurship skills training, financial support, success stories, small business start-ups, scholarship programmes, agricultural opportunities and other resources tailored to their needs such as parenting skills.

“This is because our youth are the future generation and thus, they need to be equipped with the necessary tools to overcome various challenges in life,” he said.

He said the transformative concept will be delivered through a monthly printed special youth magazine countrywide, online edition that will include the magazine read, upcoming events that are relevant to the youth, as well as provide an opportunity for the youth to join the team by sharing their stories, ensuring wide accessibility and engagement for everyone.

To ensure the credibility and accuracy of KIKI, ABC Bros will conduct thorough research, collaborate with reputable organisations and experts, fact-check all information, and use credible sources.
