YAS, ZTE boost digital access

DAR ES SALAAM: YAS Tanzania and ZTE are spearheading efforts to increase smartphone penetration and digital adoption, to revolutionise access to information and services nationwide.
This initiative not only promotes technological inclusion but also stimulates economic growth by enabling digital entrepreneurship, improving productivity and fostering innovation critical to Tanzania’s competitive edge in the global digital economy.
According to the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA), internet penetration rose by 9.6 per cent to 54.1 million in the quarter ending June from 49.3 million.

Yas Chief Commercial Officer, Jorge Soto, said at the weekend that partnership between YAS Tanzania and ZTE is strategically advancing both smartphone penetration and data usage, strengthening the foundation for broader digital inclusion and economic participation across the country.
“At YAS, our mission goes beyond providing connectivity, we aim to empower Tanzanians by enabling access to affordable smartphones and reliable internet, unlocking opportunities in education, business and everyday life,” he said at the launch of new smartphone devices.
ZTE’s Terminal Country Manager, Mr Duan Cunxin, noted that Tanzania represents a rapidly expanding market with significant potential for digital transformation.
“Through our partnership with YAS, we are delivering devices that strike the right balance between affordability and performance, enabling broader access to essential digital services such as e-learning, mobile payments, reliable connectivity and digital entertainment—key drivers of socio-economic development,” he said.
