Yas urges Mbeya youth to embrace digital technology

MBEYA: YAS Tanzania has called on youth in Mbeya to harness the power of technology by making the most of available digital opportunities to drive personal growth and economic progress.

By urging youth to embrace technology and leverage digital tools, the initiative aims to foster self-reliance, spark innovation and drive sustainable personal and economic growth.

The initiative encourages young people to use digital tools not just for communication or entertainment, but as gateways to learning, entrepreneurship and employment.

“By building digital skills and embracing innovation, youth can create new opportunities for themselves and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider economy,” Yas’s Southern Zone Director, Mr Abbas Abdurahamani said at the weekend while unveiling ‘Start Where You Are’ campaign in the region.

The company’s investment in telecom infrastructure empowers farmers with real-time market data, supports teachers in extending education beyond classrooms, and helps small businesses expand internationally via digital platforms.

By enhancing connectivity, the company fosters inclusive growth and drives economic development, ensuring that rural communities, educators, and entrepreneurs have the tools needed to thrive in a digital economy.

Yas Tanzania’s Director of Marketing, Ms Edwardina Mgendi said that YAS has expanded 4G coverage to over 95 per cent of the country and is accelerating the rollout of 5G, unlocking new opportunities in employment, education, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

She noted that improved connectivity is already reshaping how young people access information, learn new skills, and engage in digital marketplaces.

“By investing in next-generation networks, we’re not just improving communication—we’re building an ecosystem where youth can thrive in the digital economy,” she added.

The expansion is part of YAS’s broader commitment to bridge the digital divide, particularly in underserved and rural areas.

Through strategic partnerships and local engagement, the company aims to ensure that no one is left behind in the digital transformation journey.

The campaign will continue nationwide through media outlets, tech literacy training and grassroots engagement with small entrepreneurs to help them harness the power of digital tools.
