With 18.77tri/-, TRA hailed for efficiency in revenue collection

ARUSHA: THE Minister for Finance, Khamis Omar, has commended the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for its high level of efficiency in the collection of government revenue, a performance that has contributed significantly to economic growth and the implementation of national development projects.
Speaking at the opening of the TRA Mid-Year Performance Review Meeting for the 2025/26 Financial Year, held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), Ambassador Khamis stated that TRA collected 18.77tri/- between July and December 2025, equivalent to 103.7 percent of the targeted 18.10 tri/-.
He further noted that in December alone, TRA set a new record by collecting 4.13 tri/-, the highest amount ever collected since the Authority’s establishment.
He attributed these achievements to sound policies and comprehensive reforms in revenue collection systems under the Sixth Phase Government led by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, particularly the adoption of modern technologies in tax administration.
On his part, the President of the Tanzania National Chamber of Commerce(TNCC), Mr Vicent Minja, stated that a conducive business environment requires fairness and equity in tax compliance, citing the informal sector as a major challenge that creates unfair competition.

“We believe that the tax base will expand if the private sector is fully engaged.
Close collaboration between the government and the private sector will enable entrepreneurs to succeed and voluntarily comply with their tax obligations,” said Mr. Minja.
He emphasized that TNCC is ready to collaborate with TRA in implementing the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to broaden the tax base, increase government revenue, and enable a reduction in tax rates in order to enhance the competitiveness of Tanzanian businesses in regional and international markets.
