VP: “Engage in sports, don’t wait for doctor’s prescriptions”

Vice President Dr Philip Mpango has called on Tanzanians to engage in sports activities and not wait for the doctor’s prescriptions to do so.

He made the urge at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora on Tuesday during the launch of this year’s Inter-Primary School Games.

Moreover, D. Mpango has directed the Ministry for Regional Administration and Local Government to cooperate with the Ministry for Education, Science and Technology in ensuring that each primary and secondary school has at least one sports teacher.

“Sports timetable in schools should be respected…there is a tendency that some teachers use sports periods to teach other subjects and this behavior should be stopped,” insists Mpango.

Again, he said schools should always create enough space for learners to conduct sports activities and never encroach such places.

“Areas reserved for sports should not be tampered with,” he said while stressing on the need to identify talents from the grassroots level.
