Use census results in planning for development projects

COAST Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Abubakar Kunenge has called for regional leaders, professionals and executives to plan for development projects by using National Population and Housing Census reports for more positive results.
He made the remarks mid this week during a one-day training on the use of 2022 National Population and Housing Census results at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership College in Kibaha Town, which was officiated by the Commissioner for National Census and Population, Ms Anne Makinda.
“Correct use of statistics and data will help much in planning what are of priority in our region. Apart from that, planning for projects by using true statistics will also help in bringing facts in making decisions in our day-to-day activities,” he said.
He went to say that same trainings will be conducted at different levels in the region to increase efficiency in planning and implementation of projects.
He went on reveal that according to the 2022 National Population and Housing Census, population growth rate for Coast Region is 6.1 per cent compared to the nation’s 3.1 per cent.
Earlier, while opening the training, Commissioner Makinda said the purpose of the training was to enable leaders and professionals to use statistics and scientific reports in planning development projects.
“The last national census exercise has created opportunities to communities to plan for their development projects statistically, and this is the aim of our government in ensuring that projects which are planned focus on benefitting every individual in those communities,” she explained.
The training was attended by regional security team, members of regional Census Committee and different professionals from regional level.
