THE National Sports Council (NSC) officer Apansia Lema has urged the national team golfers to highly observe discipline and dedication in the camp while preparing for the All Africa Golf Challenge Trophy (AACT).
Four national team golfers have pitched a residential camp in Dar es Salaam on Thursday ahead of r the continental level competition at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) next week.
The biannual competition brings on course top continental lady golfers from over 24 countries.
The countries besides the host Tanzania are Nigeria, Botswana, Malawi, Uganda, Togo, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Namibia, Senegal, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Tunisia, Mali, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Gabon, Egypt, Sierra Leone and Cameroon.
Lema addressed the team when she visited the camp saying the government insists they work hard in order to succeed in the event.
Strong national team members in the camp are the team’s captain, Hawa Wanyeche, Madina Iddi, Angel Eaton and Neema Olomi.
The team has vast experience as no changes have been made from the team that finished overall second in the last AACT held in Accra, Ghana in 2018. During the event, Madina was crowned the best individual player of the tournament and she is upbeat to defend the title next month.
TLGU President Sophie Viggo said preparation for the event is going on well and that the national team is in the camp under two professional golfers; Geoffrey Leverian and Rajab Iddi.
She said the union has good plans to ensure the team performs well despite lacking good sponsorship.
The team’s captain Wanyeche promised to work hard in order to raise the national flag high at the home course.
“We are ready to fight for the nation’s honour in the big continental class competition to ensure the coveted trophy remains in Tanzania,” she said.
