Trade Minister defends local producers

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has called on citizens to support locally produced products as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s economy.

The government believes in the quality of the locally produced products because they meet the requirements of the Tanzania Bureau Standards (TBS).

This appeal was made by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Selemani Jafo, during an Iftar event organised by Magic Builders International Company yesterday.

“In Tanzania, as in many other countries, initiatives like these are essential to ensuring long-term economic stability and creating job opportunities for the country’s prosperity,” said Minister Jafo.

He further emphasized that supporting locally made products could have significant economic benefits. By increasing demand for domestic goods, the government aims to enhance industrial growth and reduce reliance on imports.

He added that supporting local industries also fosters innovation and sustainability, which is crucial for the country’s development.

The Minister also pointed out that buying local products helps improve the balance of trade, contributing to a more resilient and self-sustaining economy.

This shift towards locally produced goods could lead to greater economic independence, as the country would rely less on imports.

In addition to the economic discussions, the night saw an act of generosity.

The two Directors of Magic Builders International Company donated a motorcycle to a builder who had been involved in an accident while performing his duties.

The Minister also made a personal donation of 300,000/- to the injured builder, showcasing the spirit of community support and care.

Tanzania’s government has been increasingly focusing on industrialization, vital in diversifying the economy and reducing poverty.
