DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Revenue Authority (TRA) and Zanzibar Revenue Authority (ZRA) are on the final stages of integrating their tax systems for a convenient revenue administration especially for traders whose transactions involve the two sides of the country.
Deputy Minister of State, President’s Office, Finance and Planning Ali Suleiman Ameir told the House of Representatives here yesterday that ZRA is also taking its services close to taxpayers through establishment of regional tax offices.
Already, the authority has opened four regional offices in Urban West, Unguja South, Unguja North and North Pemba regions to reduce inconveniences to taxpayers and encourage compliance in tax payment.
The deputy minister further said the use of electronic systems and introduction of online return service will reduce cost of tax obligations to taxpayers.
He was answering a question by Special Seats Representative Mwantatu Mbarak Khamis who wanted to know the government strategy to strengthen systems for revenue collections, especially from petrol stations.
The deputy minister informed the house that tax on petrol is paid upon the consignment entry at the seaport and petrol station operators pay only income tax on their business profits.
