TPLB cherishes season openers

TANZANIA Premier League Board (TPLB) has given credit to the first two rounds of the NBC Premier League saying all teams have shown good performances that are worth watching.

The sentiments were made by the board’s Information Officer Karim Boimanda in Dar es Salaam recently as he gave an insight on how the two rounds of the season were staged.

“We have started well and I believe that all the targets which have been lined up for this year’s campaign will be amicably achieved because the two rounds have given us a good picture.

“Also, we have witnessed both competition and entertainment from all the teams parading in the top flight league to the extent that producing three points was not an easy thing due to the level of competition. “Even those teams which could not manage to stamp victories, you could see that they put on a spirited fight to win basing on the level of resistance they showcase in their respective matches,” said him.

He added that until now, only Simba are yet to concede a goal while the rest of the teams have conceded a goal or goals, a thing he said is one of the indicators that two rounds were epic.

“We have also started well in terms of supervision of games which to us is a big credit because, usually, before the start of new season, we organise seminars for referees, match commissioners and many others specifically to equip them with necessary skills on how to govern games,” he said.

He continued: “All the games have been well supervised even though challenges cannot fail to surface and as a board, we will establish best means on how to deal with such shortcomings.” Furthermore, he highlighted the issue of suspending unfit league venues across the country saying it has helped a lot to let people enjoy games because of the friendly environment.

Meanwhile, the league has temporarily been paused to pave the way for the national team Taifa Stars to engage in an important Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier versus Uganda at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in the city on Saturday.

As such; normal flow of fixtures is expected on September 6th with the big game on the day being a game between the defending champions Young Africans against Azam at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Dubbed Dar es Salaam Derby, the game between the two sides is never predictable meaning that anything is likely to happen during the 90 minutes of play with three points hanging by a thread.
