Tourists express feelings over NCA attractions

A WIDE range of tourism activities within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) has continued mesmerising visitors touring the area. Tourists who visited the home of the ‘Big Five’ recently, have openly expressed their joy and awe of having an up and close experience with the wild.

Mr Remen Rudolff, a tourist from the United States shared his experience of capturing a glimpse of the flora and fauna found inside the Ngorongoro crater, world’s biggest unbroken caldera.

“I feel so lucky and privileged to have been inside the crater, I bet it is everyone’s dream to visit it,” he said.

The American tourist couldn’t hide his surprise on the guides’ knowledge of the natural sanctuary for some of the densest populations of large mammals in Africa.

Apart from photography, other popular activities inside the NCA include walking safaris, archeological tourism at Olduvai Gorge, hot air balloon and Mountain hiking. For her part, Sarah Tery from Canada said she made the most of walking inside the NCA, describing it as a thrilling experience.

“We had a breathtaking and out of this world experience when we encountered elephants and buffaloes at Endoro area,” she recounted.

“We hiked into the jungles surrounding the Ngorongoro crater and seeing the caves where the elephants get their minerals from the earth.” Tourists visiting the NCA also like and enjoy hiking the Empakai and Olmoti Craters and also climbing Lolmalasin Mountain, which is Tanzania’s third highest mountain, standing at 3,666 meters.

According to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) Conservation Commissioner, Freddy Manongi, a total of 752,232 tourists visited the NCA as of July this year, from 425,386, who toured it in 2021/2022. Tanzania is one of Africa’s top safari destinations.

It boasts of an excellent wildlife viewing where big cats are also easy to spot. All members of the Big Five can be found in various Tanzanian parks and reserves and all five are present in the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park.

From its stunning Indian Ocean beaches to the shores of Lake Victoria, from the arable plains of its central plateau to the heights of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania is a jewel of East Africa.

Its natural beauty and sheer density of plant and wildlife species make it a top destination for eco-tourists. Almost a third of the country is protected, providing habitat for scores of species across all national parks and community wildlife management areas.
