Tourism stakeholders urged to protect country’s image

KILIMANJARO: TANZANIANS, especially those in the tourism sector, are encouraged to embrace patriotism by actively safeguarding and enhancing the country’s image to cement trust with visitors.

During the opening of a tour guide training session at the African Wildlife Management, Mweka (CAWM-Mweka) in Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Rector Prof Jafari Kideghesho emphasised the importance of this dedication.

Prof Kideghesho deplored actions that undermine the government’s efforts to boost the economy through tourism, reminding that the country is making a lot of efforts to promote attractions for tourists and investors.

The rector stressed that it is inappropriate and counterproductive for tour guides or any Tanzanians to engage in activities that damage the nation’s reputation.

He warned that speaking negatively about the country to visitors is akin to cutting the branch of the tree on which one is sitting.

He urged participants to adhere to professional ethics and recognise the pivotal role of tour guides in interacting with tourists, spending significant time with them and assisting in resolving any issues they may encounter.

Prof Kideghesho emphasised that tour guides have the power to elevate or harm the country’s image, expressing optimism that the training provided will enhance their skills and knowledge, enabling them to carry out their duties with professionalism and integrity.

The training at CAWM-Mweka aims to equip tour guides with essential knowledge and skills for their profession, offering a deeper understanding of the tourism sector.
