TotalEnergies Foundation, Nafasi Art Space launch new road safety campaign

DAR ES SALAAM: TotalEnergies Foundation and Nafasi Art Space joined forces in Dar es Salaam to launch an international challenge trademarked ‘VIA Creative’ which aims at educating primary schools’ pupils on road safety related issues.

The well-attended event took place at Buza Primary School in Temeke, Dar es Salaam.

This campaign provides a platform for primary school students to express their thoughts on road safety messages through artistic drawings.

The winners, according to organisers, will walk away with prizes ranging from 100,000/- to 200,000/-.

Prior to the challenge which will kick-off 20th October 2023, training will be conducted from October 9, this year.

At the end of the competition, a top winning group from Tanzania will qualify for the international finals alongside winners from other countries at the event that will take place in Paris, France.

The Managing Director of TotalEnergies Tanzania, Mamadou Ngom said the company is committed to promoting road safety awareness at the grassroots level.

“Therefore, we hope that this will be a catalyst to help our surrounding community and the entire society to prevent road accidents,” he noted.

At the launching ceremony, the guest of honor Assistant Superintendent of Police, Asulwisye Mwakyonike who doubles as the head of road safety in Mbagala said: “We are very grateful to TotalEnergies foundation for supporting the Police Force’s effort to raise awareness on the road safety.”

He is optimistic that the competition will foster unity within the community against preventable road accidents.

The event is expected to bring together students from 55 schools located in Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo to compete with each other in drawing pictures that carry road safety messages.

Throughout the training period, students will work in groups of five to create banners that promote road safety behavioral change among youth, students and adults.

Each school will be tasked to select 10 students who will become ambassadors for road safety and participate in the national banner drawing competition.
