DAR ES SALAAM: WITH President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s last year visit to India, Tanzania has entered into a partnership of 5 million US dollars (about 13bn/-) with the former through its ES Health (Africa) PVT Limited.
Based in Mwanza, the country’s institution- Tanzanite Hospital, with ES Health (Africa) PVT, which is the India’s private hospital together are expected to strengthen accessibility of specialist medical services including heart surgery in Tanzania.
Speaking at the press conference in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, the Tanzania Investment Centre’s (TIC) Executive Director, Mr Gilead Teri attributed the partnership to President Samia’s unwavering economic diplomacy and health tourism, which through her diplomatic visits in various countries including India have been attracting investment.
He said the partnership is the continuation of joint venture investment’s upward trend which reached 61 per cent of all the projects registered in September to December last year (2023).
He reminded that last year, TIC introduced a partnership initiative for connecting Tanzanian investors with foreign ones across the world.
“We congratulate the Tanzanite Hospital as shortly after announcing the partnership initiative, they submitted their proposal and thereafter the TIC welcomed them in one of the events for facilitating joint venture investment. We welcome more other domestic investors,” Mr Teri pointed out.
He said the health sector is leading when it comes to attracting joint ventures through partnership, calling upon investors in different disciplines including manufacturing to also utilise the initiative.
Tanzanite Hospital Board of Directors’ Vice Chairman, Mr Jared Awando said the collaboration with the Indian based hospital will enable the transformation of the institution’s medical technologies by installing sophisticated equipment and sharing of medical personnel.
He said presence of specialist medical services at the Tanzanite Hospital in Mwanza will save costs such as travelling, accommodation and treatment expenses incurred by citizens in searching of such medical care abroad including India.
Mr Awando said after all the arrangement for the partnership including feasibility study, the Indian based hospital, ES Health (Africa) PVT on April 11 this year brought nine specialist doctors ready for kicking off service deliveries.
He thanked the government and TIC for facilitating the agreement between the two hospitals that enabled the partnership to become a reality.
For his part, Chairman of ES Health (Africa) PVT Limited, Mr Yash Shah said their investment will enhance world class specialist medical services provision in Tanzania.
“Two months back a team led by our managing director was here to do the study, that’s how we should go ahead, and within two months, we are here to procure the equipment, do the technological upgradation and we are coming up with doctors who are going to contribute to the health care system,” Mr Shah said.
Prior to the press conference, the TIC Executive Director, Mr Teri handed over a certificate of incentive to the Chairman of ES Health (Africa) PVT Limited as the binding framework for the investors to enjoy various fiscal and non-monetary incentives including tax exemption during the implementation of the project.
In October last year President Dr Samia had a four day’s State visit to India, which elevated the diplomatic relation between the two countries in socio-political and economic development.
