Three health staff suspended over death of expectant mother in Tanga

TANGA, Handeni : Three health staff members have been suspended by the Handeni District Council executive director to facilitate a thorough investigation into the death of an expectant mother at a local health center.

The woman’s death at Kabuku Health Centre in Handeni District, Tanga is believed to be linked to negligence by the implicated medical practitioners.

Health Minister Ms Ummy Mwalimu shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the incident occurred on November 11th of this year.

“Tanga Regional Commissioner Waziri Kindamba has already dispatched a team from the Regional Chief Medical Officer, comprising two specialist doctors, for the investigation,” she said.

Ms Ummy added that professional bodies, including the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT) and Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC), along with other authorities, are conducting an investigation into the matter.

“Therefore, starting today, I am giving a seven-day deadline for MCT and TNMC to submit the report and recommendations on the measures to be taken,” stated the Health Minister”.
