TCAA launches digital-human synergy for safer aviation

DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) is embarking on a transformative path that places digital-human synergy at the centre of its strategic vision, with the goal of modernising and strengthening the country’s aviation sector.
As technology continues to reshape global aviation, the authority is taking proactive steps to keep pace by integrating cutting-edge digital systems with the human expertise, intuition and adaptability of its workforce.
TCAA Acting Director General Mr Daniel Malanga said on Tuesday although technology plays an important role in the aviation industry, the success in the sector also depends on blending of human judgement with digital precision.
“Although we have made significant technological advancements in this area, there is still a great need for well-trained professionals with a high level of expertise.
“We are being called up to optimise both,” said Mr Malanga at the opening of Air Navigation Services (ANS) two-day workshop, themed ‘Managing Human-Digital Services for Safer and More Resilient Air Navigation.’

The aim for the conference is to exchange experiences and explore practical strategies to strengthen air navigation systems in the face of rapidly advancing digital technologies.
In addition, the event provides a vital platform for learning and collaboration in one of the most critical areas of air transport—air traffic management.
Mr Malanga said the initiative marks a deliberate shift in thinking–viewing people and technology not as separate forces but as complementary assets that work in harmony to achieve operational excellence in air navigation services.
TCAA’s Director of Air Navigation Services Ms Florah Mwamshinga said the workshop which is the second in two years will further improve the country’s ability to maintain a strong and competitive aviation system, especially through the development and use of advanced digital systems.
“Workshops like this enhance sector performance and resilience, particularly in the area of digital system integration,” said Ms Mwamshinga.
She added that the government’s ongoing efforts has created an enabling environment for aviation sector growth with about 21bn/- invested in modernising voice communication and digital navigation systems.
These system upgrades and safety improvements, have enabled the country to enjoy growing recognition in the international aviation community—with 27 international airlines currently operating flights in and out of the country.
