TBL, PETPRO scalable glass recycling to promote circular economy

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Breweries Limited (TBL) and the Plastics Energy Trading and Recycling Processing Organisation (PETPRO) have launched a scalable glass recycling model to tackle the country’s growing glass waste problem and promote a sustainable circular economy.
TBL Managing Director Ms Michelle Kilpin said in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday at the signing of the partnership agreement that the initiative tackles the increasing problem of glass waste, helping to reduce environmental pollution across the country.
“This strategic partnership comes at a crucial time when waste management and environmental conservation are becoming top national priorities,” she said.
She said the partnership sets a blueprint for how manufacturers can elevate their role in driving both environmental and economic impact.

“Ultimately, we hope this initiative will serve as a platform to strengthen producer responsibility across the industry through collaboration with other manufacturers, harnessing our collective capabilities to achieve even greater impact,” she said.
The partnership model aims to significantly reduce the amount of glass waste ending up in landfills, boost nationwide recycling rates and build a more circular glass economy for manufacturers nationwide.
The PETPRO Managing Director Mr Nicholaus Jackson said the collaboration with TBL will set a new model for glass recycling in the country.
“Together, we are building a cleaner, more resilient future,” he said.
Beyond environmental benefits, the project is expected to create economic opportunities for waste collectors, recyclers and manufacturers across the country.
By establishing a steady demand for recovered glass, the programme will help generate income for thousands of individuals involved in the recycling value chain, particularly in underserved communities.
