TAVA names national team’s coaching panel

TANZANIA Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) has unveiled the two coaches who will assist the recently appointed Head Coach, Alfred Selengia.

Selengia was appointed last month and he has been tasked to manage the national teams of both genders as well as the youth teams in his one-year contract that officially started in June.

However, a month after Selengia’s appointment, TAVA secretary general Laurence Safari said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the association has added two assistant coaches who will work close with the head coach.

He named the selected assistant coaches as Athuman Sultan Said and Mariam Mkalambati.

Adding he said the assistant coaches, among others, will have the responsibility of advising the head coach on technical issues and the player’s welfare.

“On behalf of TAVA, I compliment the selected coaches and wish them the best in executing their duties for the welfare of the game in the country,” he said.

Mkalambati is currently the coach of one of the country’s top women’s teams; JKT Star while Sultan is working for the Jeshi Stars.

Selengia, the former TAVA secretary general, is a high quality volleyball coach whose appointment was based the merits.

Selengia is a high-level coach who possessed a Level 3 coaching accreditation, recognized by the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) and the international body (FIVB) in the field of coaching and coaches trainers.

He is also a trainer of CAVB coaches to become the first Tanzanian coach to hold that position.

Along with teaching the national teams, he is also tasked to advise the National teams Coordination Committee on the technical issues.

Recently Safari said Selengia will to the teams a wealth of experience and expertise with his coaching qualifications, as he possesses the necessary skills to work effectively with both players under the association’s chairman, Magoti Mtani.
