Tanzania to launch 300 new training programmes

Prof Adolf Mkenda

THE Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced plans to launch 300 new programmes to higher learning institutions that align with the national development plan and the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project.

Education Minister Prof Adolf Mkenda told parliamentarians in Dodoma on Thursday that the new development is the result of changing paradigms in the job market.

“The programmes are part of the national development plan. We have instructed all universities to revisit their teaching curriculums to correspond with the new developments,” he said.

He was responding to a basic question floated by Special Seats MP Nusrati Hanje. The lawmaker wanted to know when the government will review university curriculums to match with the national development plan.

Responding, the Minister said, the state has created Industrial Advisory Committees -IACs including employers to advise on programs needed in the labor market.
