Tanzania sparkles in Durban’s Sato games

DURBAN: TANZANIA proudly secured 3rd place in a thrilling Sato Games competition held at the prestigious Durban Exhibition Centre in South Africa.

The international event drew teams from across the region, showcasing incredible talent, energy, and sportsmanship.

Various athletic games were played, and trophies were awarded. The results were as follows; football team secured 4th place, the Netball team came in 2nd place, the Women’s Basketball team took 1st place while the Men’s Basketball team came in 2nd, and many other games, which made them to become the fast position.

A dedicated group of 48 teachers from Tanzania represented the nation in the competition, and their teamwork and determination earned them a well-deserved spot on the podium.

Their impressive performance was a result of months of preparation and strong collaboration, making the victory even more meaningful.

Upon their return to Tanzania, the President of the Teachers’ Union (CWT), Mr. Suleiman Ikomba, expressed great pride in the team’s performance.

He commended the players for their discipline and commitment throughout the tournament and emphasized that such achievements are just the beginning.

 “I am extremely proud of how our teachers represented the country. Their success proves that we are capable of even greater accomplishments in future competitions,” he said.

Mr Ikomba further promised increased support for upcoming games and encouraged more teachers to participate in sports to promote unity and well-being.

He added, “Next year, we aim for first place. Our teachers have set the bar high, and we intend to go even higher.”

He added they also had the chance to advertise the tourism attractions in Tanzania and welcome them all to come to the country.

Meanwhile, the CWT General Secretary, Mr Joseph Misalaba, was especially pleased that the competition concluded without any injuries among the Tanzanian team. “It’s not only about winning, but also about safety and well-being. We are grateful that our team remained healthy throughout,” he stated.

On his part, the TTU Head Coach Abdel Mtweve was delighted to see how they drilled hard, which made the team score a trophy.

This focus on health and well-being was echoed by the CWT’s Public Relations Officer, Juma Dedu, who stressed the union’s ongoing commitment to organizing sustainable sporting events for teachers.

“We believe that regular participation in sports helps our teachers maintain strong physical and mental health,” he explained.

The officer also highlighted the importance of such tournaments in building camaraderie, teamwork, and national pride among teachers. “When teachers engage in games like Sato, they return to their schools not just healthier but more motivated and connected,” he added.

With the success in Durban fueling new ambition, the CWT is now setting its sights on expanding training programs and increasing support for teacher-athletes.

The union hopes that this victory will inspire more educators across Tanzania to take part in future competitions and bring home even greater triumphs.
