Tanzania sees fortune in Japan’s Expo 2025

DAR ES SALAAM: A delegation of over 500 business representatives will represent Tanzania in the Japan Expo 2025 a move which is expected to boost industrial growth in the country.

The e 500 business representatives from both government and private sectors are expected to participate in the six-month Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, a major global event that officially began on April 12th, and will run through October 13th, 2025.

As part of Tanzania’s engagement, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is scheduled to visit the Expo on May 25, where he will meet with delegates from 150 countries and hold high-level discussions with global leaders and investors. The focus of his visit will be to explore strategic partnerships and promote Tanzania’s industrial growth agenda.

Tanzania’s delegation will highlight key priority sectors including agriculture, health, energy, manufacturing, and technology. Agriculture, in particular, remains a backbone of Tanzania’s economy as it exports different products in Japan such as coffee, cocoa, sesame, and cashew nuts.

The country will use the expo to advocate for value addition and agro-processing, which are crucial for job creation and export diversification.

Speaking today, April 16, in Dar es Salaam, the Minister for Industry and Trade, Dr. Selemani Jafo, emphasized the importance of the Expo for Tanzania’s economic transformation.

“Through our participation, we aim to boost industrial productivity, attract investment, and promote the adoption of green and digital technologies across key sectors,” said Dr. Jafo. “This aligns with our national goal of building a resilient and competitive economy.”

The Expo is also expected to open doors for bilateral trade agreements, technology transfer, and investment in infrastructure, particularly in industrial parks, renewable energy, and digital innovation hubs.

On her part, Angelina Ngalula, Chairperson of the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), highlighted the role of the private sector in leveraging the global event. She said that in addition to industrial promotion, the delegation from Tanzania would also showcase Tanzania’s world-class tourist attractions, such as Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, and Zanzibar, to boost the country’s tourism industry.

Ms. Ngalula also encouraged local business owners and entrepreneurs to submit applications and company profiles to TPSF to be considered for participation.

“We urge all interested businesses to apply and present strong profiles that can attract international partners and investors,” she said. “This is a unique opportunity to connect with the global market and expand Tanzania’s business footprint abroad.”

Expo 2025 provides Tanzania a critical platform to not only promote its economic potential but also to strengthen its international relationships and encourage sustainable development.
