Tanzania seeks to reduce the costs of converting vehicles from fuel to gas

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Ministry of Energy has announced that it is in discussions with the Ministry of Finance to reduce costs and taxes on equipment used to convert motor vehicles from fuel to gas.

This was stated by Deputy Minister of Energy, Salome Makamba, during her visit to the main gas refueling station at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam. She said the ministry plans to ensure that by June next year, every major road in Dar es Salaam will have a gas refueling station. There are also plans to establish large gas stations in other regions, including Morogoro, Dodoma, Moshi, Tanga, and Arusha.

Deputy Minister Makamba also called on the private sector to invest in this area, emphasizing that it benefits both individuals and the nation as a whole. She noted that many young people are already taking advantage of the opportunity to use gas in motor vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) said the corporation plans to expand gas services across almost all major roads in Dar es Salaam. Most of these stations will be established in partnership with the private sector, which has already received approval. TPDC also expects to collaborate with private investors to set up stations in neighboring regions to increase accessibility.
