Tanzania pledges to strengthen security as Dar es Salaam embraces 24-hour business

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to strengthening peace and security across the country, particularly in Dar es Salaam, through close collaboration with political parties, religious leaders, civil society organisations, and the general public.
This pledge is in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s governance philosophy of the “4Rs”(Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms, and Rebuilding), which promotes inclusive governance, national unity, and socio-political stability.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam today, April 18, 2025, Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila emphasised that the city remains stable and secure, and that the government will not tolerate any actions that could disrupt peace.
“No political party, religious institution, organisation, or company will be allowed to compromise the peace and harmony of our country,” said Chalamila.
He added that safeguarding national security is even more crucial as the country moves closer to the upcoming elections.
Regional Commissioner Chalamila also highlighted the ongoing success of the 24-hour business initiative in Dar es Salaam, a strategy introduced to stimulate economic activity by allowing businesses to operate around the clock.
He reassured business owners and workers, especially those operating during night hours the environment remains safe.
“To those who may be concerned by misleading messages circulating on social media, I want to assure you there is no cause for alarm. Continue with your daily work and businesses in peace, especially those operating at night,”he said.

The 24-hour business economy, which was introduced as part of efforts to increase employment and improve service delivery, has already shown promising results, especially in sectors such as transport, food, and retail.
In addition, Chalamila extended his warm wishes to the Christian community as they prepare to celebrate Easter, urging them to observe the holiday in peace and unity, as was the case during the recent Eid celebrations.
