TANZANIA and Pakistan’s bilateral trade is projected to reach some 400 million US dollars (almost 1.0tri/-) in the future, pushed by a positive business partnership between the two countries.
The bilateral trade volume between the two went up to 224 million US dollars (500bn/-) in 2021/2022 from 163 million US dollars in the same period in previous stint.
Pakistan High Commissioner to Tanzania said on Monday during the celebrations of Pakistan’s 76 years of independence held in Dar es Salaam that the country is a strong trading partner due to historic bilateral relations since the two became independent.
“I hope that in the coming years we will be able to at least double the current trading volume due to our positive business relationship between our countries,” said Mr Khan.
He noted that Pakistan has become an important trading partner for Tanzania, particularly in textiles, surgical and sports goods, as well as agricultural products, while the Asian country imports mainly tea, raw cotton and hides for leather from Tanzania, along with some imports of tobacco, edible oils and tanning materials.
Elaborating on the positive social relationship between the two states, Mr Khan said the two countries have maintained good cooperation in sharing expertise and technical know-how to assist and complement each other.
He said Tanzania was largely being boosted by its political stability, investment opportunities and good leadership to the extent that the Asian country is optimistic to extend its relationship, making Tanzania like a hometown to some Pakistanis.
“Currently, there are at least three thousand Pakistanis living in Tanzania. This country is like a second home; we wish to extend our partnership,” he added.
The high commissioner stressed that Pakistan has provided institutional capacity-building training programmes to Tanzanian diplomats, bankers, railways, postal and armed forces officers.
