Tanzania enhances the safety of people, farms against destructive wildlife

TUNDUMA: THE Tanzanian government has enhanced efforts to control wild and destructive wildlife to ensure the well-being and security of citizens is maintained, especially in villages bordering protected areas.

In furtherance of this goal, the Government has built a specific rapid response center in Guac Village, Songwe Region, with the aim of dealing with incidents of wild and destructive animals, including elephants entering people’s homes.

Speaking immediately after inspecting the center, the Chief Wildlife Officer from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Julius Kimaro, said the Government has continued to enhance the security of people and their property in villages bordering protected areas by building rapid response wildlife police stations.

He said that apart from the construction of these centers in various parts of the country, the government has also taken other steps, including the excavation of dams within the reserves so that wildlife can get water without having to leave their natural areas.

In addition, he noted that the government has been building cages in rivers and lakes to protect citizens from crocodiles, as well as using drone technology to monitor wildlife movements. Another step is the installation of beehive fences and electric fences, which have continued to strengthen protection in dangerous areas.

“Therefore, being here is part of the continuation of the inspection and strengthening of centers built in various parts of the country to protect citizens and their property so that they can continue to live in peace and happiness,” said Kimaro.

Earlier, the Village Wildlife Guard (VGS), Jeremia  Konyembe, thanked the government for the decision to build the center, saying it will help simplify the work of controlling wild and destructive wildlife.

“We commend the Ministry and Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania for building this facility for us. Our work of controlling wild and destructive animals will now be easier,” said Konyembe
