Ecuador is a middle income country (GDP $ 8,300 per capita) with a population of 15 million. Its economy depends on exports of gold, timber, agricultural products like bananas, coffee, fish, maize, palm oil and sugar; tourism and repatriations from about one million Ecuadorians living abroad.
