TACTIC project constructs major markets in Arusha city
ARUSHA: ARUSHA Regional Commissioner, Amos Makalla, has stated that the government has invested significant funds to improve markets in Arusha City, aiming to enhance the business environment and increase economic opportunities for local residents.
Makalla made the remarks today, January 9, 2026, during his visit to inspect the progress of the Morombo Market construction project worth 2.2bn/-
The construction of this market is progressing alongside the Kilombero Market project, valued at 9bn/-, both carried out under the Tanzania Cities Development Program (TACTIC).

“We are very grateful to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her support and for bringing this market project to this area. This market will provide space for many more traders, increasing from the previous 580 to over 736. These improvements reflect changes in the working environment and create more business opportunities for people,” Makalla said.
Furthermore, Makalla instructed the Arusha City leadership to give priority to traders who were previously operating in the area once the market is completed. He also urged the contractor executing the project to ensure timely completion and to begin implementing other essential services at the market, including electricity and water, rather than waiting until the market is finished.
