State suspends seven officials for power blackout at the National Stadium

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports, Saidi Yakubu has suspended Seven officials including the Benjamin William Mkapa Stadium Acting Manager, Salum Mtumbuka following the power outage that occurred at the stadium on Sunday.

The country’s football giants, Young Africans (Yanga) were on Sunday clashing with Nigeria’s Rivers United in the second leg of the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup where a few minutes after the match began power went off forcing them to suspend the match for some few minutes.

A statement issued by the government’s communication unit on Sunday mentioned other suspended officials as the stadium’s Electric Engineer, Manyori Kapesa, Administrative Officer and Tuswege Nikupala.

Some workers included in the suspension were mentioned as Gordon Mwangamilo Gabriel Mwasele, Yanuaria Imboru and Dr Christina Luambano.

Meanwhile, the PS also appointed Mlinde Mahona as the new Acting Manager of the stadium with his appointment being effective from today.

According to the statement, the officials have been suspended so as to give way for thorough investigation on the matter.

On March 28, 2023 as Taifa Stars were hosting their rivals Uganda the cranes at the stadium to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) the same problem of power outage occurred during the match.
