Stakeholders unite to push transparency in mining

DODOMA: THE government has pledged to intensify its collaboration with civil society organisations (CSOs) and the private sector, in joint efforts aimed at fostering transparency and accountability in the mining sector.
The commitment was announced in Dodoma during the ‘Jukwaa la Uziduaji 2025’, organised by Haki Rasilimali, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting integrity in the extraction sector.
The three-day forum, held in Dodoma, attracted various stakeholders from the mining sector, including government officials, civil society representatives and private sector players, all united to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the industry.
The goal was to create a comprehensive dialogue on critical issues impacting national interests, particularly in the context of mining.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dunstan Kitandula, commended Haki Rasilimali for consistently organising such platforms over the last decade.
“This is the best way to seek solutions for various issues bedevilling our people, rather than sitting down and complaining,” he stated during the forum’s closing ceremony.

Mr Kitandula emphasised the importance of dialogue as a means to drive tangible solutions in various sectors, particularly within the extraction industry.
Echoing the sentiments, ViceChairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals, Mr Kilumbe Ng’enda acknowledged the critical insights gained from the ‘Jukwaa la Uziduaji’ platform.
He urged that the recommendations emerging from the forum be forwarded to the government for practical implementation.
“We thank Haki Rasilimali for providing this platform, which has indeed assisted us in Parliament to effectively conduct our oversight role in the extractive sector,” said Mr Ng’enda, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Kigoma North.
A representative of Haki Rasilimali, Mr Adam Anthony stressed the organisation’s ongoing efforts to transform the extractive sector through increased transparency and accountability.
