SPORTS pundits have expressed their delights following the appointment of Ally Mayay as the Acting Sports Development Director.
The Ministry for Culture, Arts and Sports issued a statement on Tuesday declaring that former Taifa Stars player Mayay replaces Yusuph Singo.
Former Young Africans defender Bakari Malima is among the notable figures that hailed Mayai appointment saying he tailormade for the job and commended his appointment.
He also urged all the sports stakeholders to support him in carrying out his duties as he will require their cooperation to adhere to his assigned tasks.
Tanzania Football Federation(TFF) also expressed its satisfaction on Mayai choice and the country’s football body went on to congratulate him saying he will serve his tasks as the new acting director of sports development.
From the statement, the government said the appointment of Mayay will help to improve efficiency in the sports sector.
It further said his appointment was effective from yesterday (September 20th, 2022) and called upon sports stakeholders to give him adequate support during his new responsibilities.
However, efforts by the Daily News to get his immediate reaction following the appointment were unsuccessful as his mobile contact was not reachable.
He is among the famous sports pundits in the country who usually analyses football matches on Azam Television, both domestic and international games.
Before the appointment, Mayay was a Senior Commercial Officer at Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA).
Mayay started his football carrier in Dodoma with CDA Football Club; and completed his football career with Young Africans.
He was among the players who served Yanga when they first time played in CAF Champions League’s group stage in 1998.
After retiring from soccer, he twice contested for the TFF presidency post in 2017 and 2021.
Moreover, he joined Taifa Stars squad in 1996 under the tutelage of Sunday Kayuni and most of the time he served as defensive midfielder.
Aside from playing at Taifa Stars, Mayay also traded at Young Africans, where he established himself as then one of the best midfielders who were doing commendable jobs at their respective clubs.
