SMEs enhance skills for procurement contracts

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIAN small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have enhanced their capacity to compete for procurement contracts across both private and public sectors, following a targeted two-day capacity-building programme designed to strengthen their technical and strategic skills.
The ‘Bridge Local Supplier Development Programme,’ launched on Wednesday at the Industry Enhancement Centre (IEC), aims to strengthen the capacities of local businesses, enabling them to compete effectively for significant contracts within major projects.
This initiative is a strategic component of Schneider Electric’s local content commitment to Tanzania, particularly in relation to the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project, where Schneider Electric acts as a principal contractor.
To operationalise this commitment, Schneider Electric engaged the Small Enterprise Supplier Development Corporation (SESDCorp) to implement the programme, focusing on equipping local SMEs with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet project standards and enhance their integration into high-value supply chains.
