Singida Black Stars, URA FC share spoils in Mapinduzi Cup clash

ZANZIBAR: SINGIDA Black Stars were held to a 1–1 draw by Uganda’s URA FC in a Group A match of the Mapinduzi Cup played yesterday at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
The closely contested encounter saw both sides enjoy periods of dominance but neither could find a winning goal. URA FC took the lead in the 25th minute after Hudu Mulikyi calmly finished off a well-worked move, converting an assist from Fred Amaku.
The Ugandan side controlled much of the opening half-hour, dictating play through confident ball possession and organised midfield play.
However, Singida Black Stars grew into the game with increased pressing and intensity, and their efforts were rewarded just before the interval.

Idris Diomande struck a low, grass-cutting shot that beat URA FC goalkeeper Derrick Ochan, who was left helpless as the ball sailed into the back of the net to level the scores.
Despite both teams pushing for a decisive goal after the break, the first-half strikes proved sufficient to settle the contest.
The result follows Singida Black Stars’ earlier performances in the tournament, where they drew 1–1 against Azam FC and secured a 2–1 victory over Mlandege, keeping their hopes alive in Group A.
