Simba, Yanga pay tribute to football fan died in stampede
Simba and Young Africans have joined hands in paying tribute to a football fan who passed away before the CAF Confederation Cup first leg final match between Yanga versus USM Alger at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
Chaos erupted before the game as fans forced their way inside the 60,000 capacity venue a situation that led to stampede after one of the gates was brought down in an attempt to venture into the stadium.
However, both clubs on Monday have issued formal statements through their verified Instagram pages in sending condolence messages to the family of the deceased.
For Simba, they write: “In response to the information by the Minister for Health Ummy Mwalimu, that in the incident, 30 other people sustained injuries and have been treated at Temeke Referral Hospital.
“Simba pray for the soul of the fan who passed away to rest in peace and those injured should recover fast in order to resume their usual day to day activities,” reads part of the statement.
Similarly, part of Yanga statement reads: “The management of Yanga send condolence message to the bereaved family and the club’s president Hersi Said is praying to God for those who were injured to recover and return back to their normal activities.
“God should rest his soul in eternal peace, Amen.”
