Simba fans lauded for AFL award

DAR ES SALAAM: AFTER clinching the Africa Football League (AFL) Fans of the Tournament award, Simba has urged their supporters to continue behaving well and be ‘smart.’

The decorated prize was received by Simba Chairman of the Board of Directors, Salim Abdallah ‘Try Again’ after the AFL final match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca in Pretoria, South Africa over the weekend, which saw Sundowns clinching the title after a 2-0 win.

In his remarks on Monday, the club’s Media and Communication Manager Ahmed Ally called on Simba to say the award is a testimony that their fans are role models to all football fans on the continent.

“First, we are excited that our passionate fans have been voted as the best in this year’s AFL tournament, it is good news to all of us and we are grateful.

“On behalf of the management, I want to take this platform to encourage them to continue behaving well and at the same time be smart because they are the mirror of all football fans in Africa,” Ally said.

He added: “They (fans) have done their job well by convincing FIFA and CAF that they deserve the award as such, they must keep on being exemplary fans in both good and bad times.

“Recently, things have not been going well among our supporters and this is the best moment for them to show their maturity of how great they are.”

Again, Ally narrated that after cementing their superiority outside the pitch, they are now working on procedures that will make their team strong on the pitch and be named the best team on the continent.

In another development, he disclosed that the exercise to find a new coach has reached an advanced stage, and this week, they will parade him to the public.

Queried whether the upcoming trainer is from within the country or not, Ally replied: “He is an expatriate coach, we have considered his professionalism and not his tribe or the country he comes from.”

Concerning the squad, he said players who were not called to join their respective national teams reported to camp on Monday to resume training programs.

He also remarked that no Simba player has been suspended as recently reported by some social media outlets after succumbing to a 5-1 defeat from their traditional rivals Young Africans.
