‘Screen all players of major leagues’
THE Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) said all clubs to trade in the Premier League, Championship League and First League must conduct medical check-ups of their players before the season begins.
A statement from TPLB released on Tuesday said that health screening of players is part of implementing club license.
“All players who will feature in the Premier League next season should undergo medical screening and be passed fit by doctors that they have no health problems that can endanger their lives and their colleagues.
“Those who do not undergo a medical check-up will miss the status of being registered and hence miss a chance to have a special certificate approved by TFF.
“This will deprive them of a chance to play in any competitions supervised by the Federation,” said the statement.
It continued: “The exercise is significant and compulsory in accordance with Article 69:2 (2,4) of the Premier League and Championship League as well as Article 70:2(2,4) of the First League.
“All clubs should ensure that accredited doctors do health screening exercises,” the information said.
In conclusion, TPLB wishes all clubs success in preparation for the 2023/24 campaign as they implement the health screening task.
So far, Azam and Simba have already begun implementing the exercise as they have posted on social media platforms of their players undergoing medical check-ups.
This ensures players and staff are safe and healthy when the league resumes.
Simba team’s doctor Edwin Kagabo said the exercise went well. He noted that the players had undergone tests of their body weight, blood volume, kidney and liver function, an X-ray and cardiac electrical system checkup to know their fitness before the season started.
Players confirmed to be tested are Mohamed Hussein, Mzamiru Yassin, Shomari Kapombe, Israel Patrick, Moses Phiri, and Kibu Denis.
Azam’s Head of Communication, Thabit Zakaria, said their two-day health screening program ended yesterday at Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam.
He said they wanted all their players to embrace health screening before departing for pre-season drills in Tunisia.
Players confirmed to be tested are Abdul Seleman, Iddi Selemani Ali, James Akaminko, Tepsi Evans, and Foba Masudi.
