SBT urges sugarcane farmers to utilise experts’ advice to boost productivity
MOROGORO: Sugarcane farmers in Kilombero have been urged to use skills acquired during the just ended Kilombero Valley Sugar cane Farmers Day and exhibitions in tackling challenges affecting their farms.
The call has been made by Sugar Board (SBT) Director General Prof Kenneth Bengesi at the climax of the a three-day Kilombero sugarcane farmer’s exhibition.
“I understand that sugarcane farming has been experiencing a lot of challenges. However, a lot of experts have been here for the last three days giving solutions on how to go on modern farming. I call upon you to use the skills which you have acquired here to tackle your challenges and hence increase your productivity,” said Bengesi.

The Kilombero Sugar cane Farmers Day started with an open dialogue where farmers had an opportunity to explain challenges and how best to solve them and later followed a three day exhibitions.
Issues raised were farming equipment, quality seeds, proper fertilizer usage, and various methods for disease and pest control in sugarcane crops.
