He further stated that they have identified the company responsible for importing the fake products and have initiated legal proceedings against it.

According to Mr Leo the company tarnishing their business and brand with fake products began the illegal business in 2016 and in 2019 they managed to control and stop them but they began again in 2023 where reaching February 2024 they had succeeded to import 10 containers of counterfeit motorcycles using SANLG brand.

“They are using our brand name to capture the local market. We have gathered evidence from sales agencies from other countries and have presented them to the law enforcement agencies, and it is now in the high court,” Mr Leo said.

Additionally, he said that the counterfeit motorcycle containers are being imported from China while expressing the high level of competition in the business as motorcycle manufacturing companies have increased rapidly recently.

On her part, the Director of Route Marketing Consultancy Anisa Nkulo advised Tanzanians, both importers as well as customers to avoid fake products and prioritize quality ones noting that the challenge is caused by people seeking easy ways in achieving or getting things.

Moreover, she said that the use of counterfeit motorcycles has been leading to technical accidents due to their inferior quality which costs the lives of citizens.

“SANLG original motorcycles have this kind of label, [she showed the label] so, once you see a fake motorcycle that doesn’t have this kind of label report it and this will help to combat accidents that could be avoided. These fake motorcycles are mostly found in the regions,” she said.
